Victor Towle is an eclectic and multi-talented artist who has gained recognition in the New Age music scene for his expertise in various styles. Victor soon began his musical journey by listening to classic pop hits on the AM radio he was gifted by his grandfather. Then branching out to legendary guitarists such as the iconic Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, and Wes Montgomery.

Throughout his school years, Victor was exposed to different styles of music, including jazz, which he played in school bands, and rock, pop, and blues, which he played in a party band called “The Band.” His fascination with jazz legends such as John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, and Miles Davis, whom he discovered during this period, continued to shape his musical preferences throughout his life. After completing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology and Rehabilitation Counseling, respectively, Victor began his professional career in social work and counseling for those who had a brain injury.

As a guitarist and soloist, Victor has grown his instrumental repertoire, owing to his extensive experience as a leader and collaborator. He attributes his musical development to his professional career, which includes working as a Clinical Care Manager for rehabilitation, as well as his involvement with yoga and meditation. Victor’s passion for using his guitar music as an aide in meditative and rehabilitative practices inspired his latest albums, “Acoustic Reflections”,”Colorado Zen,” “The Space In Between”, and “Still Young For Another Day”, which showcases his eclectic musical background and the immersive soundscapes of New Age music.

His album “Colorado Zen” was nominated for New Age Music Acoustic Instrumental Album of the Year and reached #8 on the New Age Music charts (Zone Music Reporter). The song “Spring Crocus” was also featured on Sirius XM Spa channel. His album “The Space In Between” reached #11 and the song “Storm On The Horizon was also added to Sirius XM Spa channel.

Paul Scott Releases New Single ‘The Angry Boyz’

"Paul Scott Releases New Single ‘The Angry Boyz’"

Musically the track is somewhere between pop, punk and disco, which I have never referred to as ‘posco’. Lyrically it went like this: I was witness to a statement purporting to be fact that was so egregious in it’s falsehood and so inept in it’s delivery, it made me laugh. A comic manifesto for the angry boys. That’s how it starts, not just the song, but also the trouble. ‘Garbage truckers’ is not a reference to the good people of our cities’ sanitation departments, it’s the gossip we drown in.

png

Paul Scott began his career in music, writing and playing bass in angular NZ group Pop Mechanix. Despite court cases, a revolving cast of singers and multiple record labels, their single ‘Jumping Out A Window’ became a staple of New Zealand pop culture.

Relocating to Australia, Paul formed Montana with Ken Stewart (Mr Blonde), Michelle Margherita and Steve Melville. Their first release featured ‘Koolest Band’ which received national airplay and high rotation on JJJ. A brief tour of the USA and a performance at SXSW, led to ‘Koolest Band’ being included in the Hollywood movie ‘You Drive Me Crazy’. The subsequent album ‘Bubblegum Love’ was released in Australia, Spain, France and the USA.

Scott has since plied bass for various Australian acts, playing everywhere from community halls and malls in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to the Sydney Opera House. Teaming up with Steve Melville (ex Mr Blonde and Montana) Paul and Steve have established a studio production relationship, playing on each other’s tracks (Stewart and Melville, The Likes of You) and coproducing The Insufferable Paul Scott’s well received 2021 album ‘Tea and Medals’ (which Melville also mixed).

Their most recent project is a closer collaboration with Melville adding drums, percussion and keyboards to Scott’s voice, guitar and bass, a line up very close in sound and feel to their youthful unit ‘Montana’. “I was looking for the kind of pop thrill I used to get from great Aussie indie bands such as The Falling Joys, Smudge, The Hummingbirds, pop thrills… you know?” says Scott.  An album has been completed and tracks will be released over the next few months on Foghorn, home to most of their releases to date.

Burger Legs Joe ft. Loz C Release Single ‘Missing’

"Burger Legs Joe ft. Loz C Release Single ‘Missing’"

‘Missing’ was released by UK R&B duo Everything but the Girl in 1994 and is best known for the Todd Terry EDM remix. It evokes imagery of traveling urban to streets to stand alone in a moment of lost love. Tragic, but also so romantic and upbeat in the way it grooves you along. Brilliant!

The Burger Legs Joe restmod leans into the EDM remix, with added duff and a new perspective on the arrangement. Featured vocalist Loz C brings it all together in her unique style, radiating romance as she powers along the beat.

I hope it puts that beat in ya feet!

About

The avatar of an unidentified Music Producer, Burger Legs Joe is on a mission to restomod (restore and modernise) outstanding retro songs for your grooving pleasure.

Treasuring the essence of what makes each track so fabulous, they’re re-energized to a modern perspective; weaving rhythms and melodies in BLJ’s distinctive ear grabbing style, that lingers in your head and puts beats in your feet. Burger Legs Joe is with Foghorn Records, and when he’s not arranging restmods, he focuses on original and collaborative music projects.

Big Merino Release Single ‘Long Time’

"Big Merino Release Single ‘Long Time’"

Composed in the aftermath of the rejection of the Voice Referendum, the song reflects on the dispossession of Australia’s indigenous people. The vote seems an attempt to deny the truth, the theft of land and resources. Alex “To me, the referendum was a gentle request for respect and inclusion. The fact that it failed demonstrates how far we have to travel as a nation and asks the question, how long will that process will take? Going on past experience, I would say it’s going to take a long time.”

Alex worked doing photos on APY lands some years ago. The cover image, taken during those sessions, is of a church in Indulkana. The hometown of the famous portraitist, Vincent Namatjira: Archibald Prize Winner and Gina Rinehart’s least favourite artist. In the recording the band tried to get a sense of space using acoustic instruments to reflect the feeling of the vastness of those places.

About

Formed in 2017, Big Merino play original music that blurs the lines between country, blues, roots, rock and pop. Despite an obvious passion for what’s often called ‘Americana’ their songs somehow manage to be very personal and quintessentially Australian – the words and sound shaped by the landscape and their own stories.

Their live sound is a classic combination of acoustic and electric guitars, vocals, bass and drums. Their recordings are fleshed out with multiple guitar layers, gospel style harmonies, Hammond organ, piano, horns and percussion.

In 2018 the band released their debut album ‘Suburban Wildlife’, made two cinematic film clips with director Alan Harca, and performed all around Sydney. The band has done numerous Interviews & live-to-air performances including ABC 702 & RN, 2SER Dirt Music, Radio Skid Row, Eastside Radio, Aussie Music Weekly and 2BBB. The single ‘Black Cockatoos’ was top 10 on AMRAP Metro and Regional playlists.

Kalen Hogan Releases New Single ‘Mindless’

"Kalen Hogan Releases New Single ‘Mindless’"

Kalen is moved by the gritty side of life and respects those who are struggling with inherited or self-induced negative states of mind. ‘Mindless’ comes from that state of mind, lost, isolated, describing hallucinogenic episodes and schizophrenic-like symptoms.

Kalen says ‘‘Mindless’ is a song about mental illness. It describes hallucinogenic episodes and schizophrenic like feelings. We are taken on a journey with a person who is well into literally losing their mind.’

Neil Tatar Releases Single ‘Bella’

"Neil Tatar Releases Single ‘Bella’"

The storyline for my composition “Bella” is quite interesting, and actually began in September, 1939 in Radom, Poland. This was when the Nazi’s invaded Poland. “We Were The Lucky Ones” is a book written by Georgia Hunter, and tells the story of a family’s World War II experiences trying to survive in Nazi Germany. I read this book a couple of years ago, and was mesmerized by the stories being told. Actually, I was struck by the similarities of these stories to those I heard from my own family when I was a child, having been born a few years after the end of the War.

The story features the “Kurk” family from Radom, Poland. One of the sons was Jakob Kurk, and he was married to a woman named “Bella”. They both are significant characters in the book. Bella’s experiences during the war are described along with those of the Kurk family, some of them quite disturbing. Of particular interest to me was a chapter describing Bella’s journey from Radom to Lvov, where Jakob had gone to fight with the Polish infantry. She travelled by horse-drawn wagon under cover of darkness, and ultimately on her hands and knees across meadows to avoid detection by the Nazi’s and to reach Lvov, where she hoped to reunite with Jakob.

As I was reading the book, it became apparent that there were references pointing directly to my own family, specifically to my grandfather, Fred Tatar. Upon further investigation, I discovered that “Bella” was actually my cousin. Her father, Henry Tatar, was my grandfather’s brother. My grandfather, Fred, was already living in the States at the time, but Henry was not so fortunate, and he was murdered in a concentration camp. After the war, my grandfather provided sponsorship to Bella and her family so they could relocate to the US. I was emotionally moved when I discovered this direct family connection, and I proceeded to create a guitar piece, aptly named “Bella”. I now understand why some of the stories mentioned in this book reminded me of those told when I was a young boy – because they were the same stories.

Note: By the end of the Holocaust, 90 percent of Poland’s three million Jews were annihilated; of the more than thirty thousand Jews who lived in Radom, fewer than three hundred survived. We can never take our freedom for granted.

Paul Scott Releases Single ‘Saturday Morning TV’

"Paul Scott Releases Single ‘Saturday Morning TV’"

Saturday Morning TV, do you remember, would you go back? They are always selling tickets to the past, would you retreat to the days of innocence and simplicity? The past is a foreign country and we, with our poisoned knowledge, will not be welcomed.  We are forever fated to fall forward into our mutual futures; what was felt then will never be felt again. Change consumes us and as some things degrade, we can also evolve, we can burnish our souls. The synths sounds are relics, the guitars refer to a digital past, all matt gloss and sharp edges.

Silphie Releases Single ‘Blossom Fairy Queen’

"Silphie Releases Single ‘Blossom Fairy Queen’"

Blossom Fairy Queen is dedicated to our loved ones who have passed. The song was one of those gifts of a song that seemed to arrive whole. I sat down to the piano and just played and sang the whole song. The creative experience is so exhilarating when things flow like that!

Our loved ones never leave us. Energy can not be created or destroyed. I hold onto that and send you prayers and love. In turn I feel love returning to me, to us. It’s a subtle, cosmic feeling. Our perception of time is linear in modern life. So many boxes to tick along the way! I’ve missed a few. Every now and then I feel that connection to the moment, to something more, something infinite. That’s when love comes through and I know your energy goes on. You mind my life.

About

Michaele Archer is an Australian classically trained singer and composer and has performed nationally and internationally in Opera, Oratorio and concert. Michaele loves collaboration and unusual projects and highlights have included performances of “Brackish Songs” by indigenous composer Christopher Sainsbury and the first live performances of Schubert’s “Erlking” with a sand animation by Californian creator Benny Zelkowicz. Her original recording project “Galatea” was released in 2019.

Silphie is a collaboration with Michaele Archer (composer/vocal and harmonium), Rachel Whealy (cello), Giuseppe Zangari (guitar) and Gab Stelle (viola). The name Silphie comes from the ancient world’s herb Silphium which was used for everything from perfume and cooking to medicine. The latest recording project by Silphie, “Garland, the love poems of Sulpicia” is inspired by rich, raw sounds of analogue, alto instruments and ancient Latin poetry.

Sulpicia is a female voice that was lost for many years and her 6 love poems form the text for this project. Sulpicia lived around the time of Augustus in the first century BCE and her work is one of very few written by a Roman woman to survive. Her poems were published in a collection by the Roman male poet Tibullus and were originally attributed to him. Sulpicia’s Garland of poems tells the story of a secret love affair.
