Tailor Birds Releases Single ‘Bluebird’

"Tailor Birds Releases Single ‘Bluebird’"

Bluebird, is a gorgeous step forward into the Tailor Birds world – a chance to dream, a chance to wander through the mist, to float through a world of light and dark, as we then wake up from our dreams to the beautiful real life crisp birdsong. Richer, dreamier, perhaps even darker and more vibrant than her last recordings, Bluebird is as wild as the place it was recorded in – a converted henhouse in Ireland, a former home of goats & chickens.

This song is the first single of 9 beauties releasing monthly through the year before 2027 sees the release of the stunning 3 part album.

This song features Tailor Birds’ creator, Sophie’s stunning vocals and her trademark live looped electric 5 string dreamy violin at the core of the sound, and features some stunning guests including Vinod Prasanna and Paya Lehane on flutes, Benjamin Smith on guitars, our long standing drummer, Daniel Brates on percussion, plus a guest vox shimmery moment from Terence who built the henhouse, and who also, alongside his wife opened his home for Sophie to record this album in. Bluebird also features plant music biosonification from the various studio sounds converted into electrical currents, including the steps of the ladder that was hanging out in the studio, some aloe vera, and a paper birch tree. Plus there’s the stunning foley art in the form of bird song, dog sounds, handwriting glimmers, and some smashed glass too. Recorded in the converted hen house studio, the song was then sent to our beautiful guest musicians across the globe, before the song was then threaded together

Dream folk musical wonder, electric violin magic, plant music biosonification, Tailor Birds has always tried to experiment with wondrous concepts, most recently recording the electrical currents of the studio walls via her plant music work.  Live shows and her latest recordings aim to connect us all to a sound deeper than the earth, to help the listener regain a sense of calm and peace in a world of chaos, whilst also inspiring intrigue and wonderment. Reminiscent of the work of Nick Cave and Enya, and sometimes described as music for a video game not created yet, Tailor Birds’ performances have filtered through wild community experimental festivals throughout Europe, and in Australia from down in the Tarkine forest in Tasmania up to the rainforests in far north Queensland. This music sits on the edge of mainstream, but also fits into a world of its’ own.

Tailor Birds NEW ALBUM – Where Will We Go To Break Free From The Crows

"Tailor Birds NEW ALBUM – Where Will We Go To Break Free From The Crows"

Sophie Kinston is Tailor Birds.
Tailor Birds newest album is music that soothes the soul, warms the spirit, and ignites your passion.
Even though the content is 6 songs they are each a 7-10 minute ‘Piece’ forming an album length body of work. Following the success of the previous work ‘Stilts on the Water’ (a single 40 minute piece) this release explores further electro/folk/world territory with more instrumentation such as Piano and Flute added to the already lush soundscape. Recorded in various studios throughout Europe while on tour and mixed and mastered at Damien Gerard Studios Sydney the sonic quality is exceptional.

In Sophie’s own words, “Tailor Birds combines electronic violin, live looping, foley art, percussion, and rich harmonised vocals, to create a sound like no other. A sound that is all about the vibe and positive energy, building an audience that is as diverse as much as it is one, you could say that Sophie is a traveling troubadour. She believes that music should not just be about playing one gig after another with just the music making an impact, but is also o about connecting people to something good again, in a world that is constantly changing. Music needs to inspire and placing Tailor Birds in a space that can do just that, it makes an impact greater than you could ever imagine.”

Tailor Birds on the Road Update!

"Tailor Birds on the Road Update!"

Some updates from the mad mad world of the Tailor Birds – one of our fave artists currently touring Australia in their own home fitted out camper van…

How are you all?  Its’ been a while since we last emailed, but life on the road is a busy one. Now 6 weeks in, things are well, though I can’t quite remember what life was like before I jumped into the van and took this leap of faith, a calculated risk you could say, or perhaps a welcome change & development.

To get to where we’re at now, what a job its’ been, but as they say, good things come to those who wait.

And as I write this mailout, I’m in NSW, a few hours north of Sydney.  It’s thanks to you guys – through your support through donations, merch purchases, home cooked meals, a space to park our van even.  It’s all about the power of the people, I say, and this enables us to tour full time, spreading good energy wherever possible.  The Tailor Birds family is growing, and as I travel through Australia, my heart is warm.

With 27 shows through over 20 towns, in just 6 weeks – pop up gigs, street shows, venue gigs, cafés, & markets, we’ve done 3 – 8 shows per week, driven over 6,000 km through VIC, up to Northern Queensland, and seen so much beauty. Siting hundreds of kangaroos, soldier crabs, a 26 million year old extinct volcano, waterfalls, beaches, rock pools, Australia is a mighty country.

Though lucky we’re in NSW.  As you may have heard, N. QLD was hit with a category 4 cyclone, Cyclone Debbie a few days ago.  With road closures, flash flooding and more, it’s with great sadness that we have had to cancel our Sun Townsville gig.  So the Willows Market is being shifted to later in the year.  We may also have to cancel the Mackay show, we’ll see.

SO KEEP CHECKING THE WEBSITE, FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM for all notifications, gig changes, as that’s where all the info gets updated.

But despite this extreme weather, and the impact of the past week, we’ve got to look forward not backward, and with that in mind, we’ve some really cool things coming up…:

Appearances through: Coffs Harbour, Oran Park, Glebe, Nabiac, the Hunter Valley…..

As we’re in NSW, we’ve just added the Tea Gardens Genuine Farmers Market (Sat 1st April), and Johns River Community markets (Sat 8th April).

PLUS…..we’ve got Eumundi’s Bohemian Bungalow (June), a night-time cruise in Cooktown (June), AND…..

ST. ALBANS FOLK FESTIVAL (21st – 23rd April)
PLUS
THE BYRON BAY BLUESFEST BUSKING COMPETITION – 12th APRIL, we’re up!!!!!!!

Semi-Finals – BEACH HOTEL, 8pm!!!  So come hang out, help us win this thing!!

5a0f15ca-682f-4227-8281-764a1deab402

And with numerous Aussie shows coming up, a new T.Birds lullaby release headed your way, plus a 5th European summer tour coming up, we’ve got lots happening – large and small, and each is a treat!!

You can get in touch with us via tailorbirdsmusic@gmail.com as we’d love to hear from you, about anything – how your day has been, how Cyclone Debbie has effected you, songs you might be working on, or even if you want to get us in for a bit of a house visit/house concert.

And with the aftermath of Cyclone Debbie, we’re gonna try to stay safe, otherwise, we’ll be stranded, or washed away.  So, look after yourselves, and see you along the way.
Next time we write, it will hopefully be from a patch of dry land.
