01 Georgia Fair. Are We Not Alive

Following on from their 2011 debut album ‘All Through Winter’, Georgia Fair are back with their second LP ‘Trapped Flame’. The album was recorded in LA’s famous East West Studios with producer Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys). They’d considered several producers but as lead singer Jordan Wilson explains “It was clear that we felt drawn back to America to continue exploring this vast musical landscape where many of our heroes emerged”. They brought in some session musicians to round out the sound in Steve Sidelnyk on drums (PJ Harvey) and Jonny Flaugher on bass (Ryan Adams).

Lloyd Cole, has enjoyed something of a renaissance in 2013. He released his new ‘career best’ album ‘Standards’, found himself with star billing on the UK’s finest music show ‘Later With Jools Holland’ and has been playing to sell-out houses across Europe ever since. Recorded in early 2013 in Los Angeles, New York and at his home in Massachusetts, ‘Standards’ is produced by Lloyd and mixed by maverick German producer Olaf Opal. Inspired in part by the vitality he found in Bob Dylan’s acclaimed album, ‘Tempest’ – Standards’ is a gloriously electric rock’n’roll record and arguably the best thing he has made since his groundbreaking debut with the Commotions, ‘Rattlesnakes’.

The Urban Chiefs (aka Blake Saban 3) are one of the hardest working roots rock bands in Oz. Blues slide guitar driven by insane percussive grooves with whisky sour vocals. The Urban Chiefs recorded their third studio album Rise Above at the end of 2013. This is a musician’s album and the musicians are technicians, craftsman with their instruments. ‘Rise Above’ was released at the Adelaide Fringe in February 2014 before the band embarked on a National Tour.

Daniel Dawes released his first solo album Strange Things in March 2009. The Strange Things album received strong support from radio, and, the ABC’s Rage selected the film clip for the album’s title track as Indie of the Week. The album also received several favourable reviews in the press, one reviewer commenting, “there was not a single low point on the entire record” (Nick Kays, The Dwarf.com). Dawes’ second album, Battle Lines, will be released in early 2014 with the new single Listen To The Radio out now.

Bitzer, the band with an ‘impeccable Oz rock pedigree’ (Alt Media) dropped into Damien Gerard Studios recently to record new versions of two songs from classic Australasian bands. Drum Media calls BITZER ‘a supergroup comprised of several champions of the Golden Era of Australian Rock’. ‘Sunshine’ was the title track of Dragon’s 1977 album, the first made by the group after relocating from New Zealand to Sydney. BITZER’s reboot is an elegant pop ballad featuring Steve Mulry on lead vocal and Steve Edmonds on lead guitar. Backing harmonies are by Mick O’Shea (who played drums in Dragon) and Lucy Desoto.

Award winning singer/songwriter Bob Pigott continues to be as prolific and hardy as a Sydney Blue Gum, returning to his roots with his latest offering ‘Sydney Songs’. Blending the sounds and words of the streets that wind down to his hometown’s glorious harbour and beaches, Bob has recorded a 7 track mini album celebrating Australia’s global city. ‘Sydney Song’ is a day in the life of the grand old town. Natasha Duarte? has just turned 18 but already she is becoming a major sensation on the Australian music scene. Her school tour and other promotions through 2012 including playing Music Matters in Singapore have built her Facebook following from just 1600 to around 50,000 fans. Her new video has had over 70,000 views in this first week alone. Natasha’s new album ‘First Time’ features songs written over the past two years include ‘The Worst Part’ which won the prestigious ISC Teen Award in 2011 alongside Kimbra and Missy Higgins’ winning song entries. The album has just been released by Empire and MGM.
