Julie Anne Marshall – Let Go – New Addition to Playlist

"Julie Anne Marshall – Let Go – New Addition to Playlist"

The new single from Julie-Anne Marshall Let Go has just been added to the soundslikecafe digital espresso playlist

Julie-Anne says “I have learnt to embrace the fluidity of my songwriting and that I am a multifaceted artist…the song says to me, ‘ready’ and I say ‘yep, where are we going this time?’”

‘Let Go’ features slide guitar and piano matched with sassy earthy vocals. She has teamed up again with Matt Williams (from Adelaide) to record a song that is forlorn but also defiant in feel.

Though fluid in genre, her songs are still quintessentially Julie-Anne – lyric driven, with an openness and ease of listening, emotive vocals and a succinct and lucid poetic language.

Press Shot

Originally from Adelaide, Julie-Anne Marshall has spent the last two years in Melbourne in what she optimistically refers to as ‘strange, interesting and challenging times’.

Having come out the ‘other side’ she is now finding her feet and a renewed enthusiasm for her art and her sense of self as a singer-songwriter. In doing this Julie-Anne has given herself full permission to ‘sit’ comfortably wherever the song wanting to be expressed takes her.

This is evident in the movement from her last single release (Good Feeling) which had a California Pop vibe, to her current song release ‘Let Go’ which has bedded itself into a neo-Bluesy Rock Ballad.

Julie-Anne Marshall releases positive and uplifting single Good Feeling

"Julie-Anne Marshall releases positive and uplifting single Good Feeling"

A feel good song can lift the spirits and that is exactly what the latest song from singer-songwriter Julie-Anne Marshall does.

Its light, bright and breezy sunshine pop.

It makes you feel like you are driving along a country road with the window down, friends in the car on a warm afternoon heading to the beach or doing a road trip.

Its about the sun being higher in the sky as summer approaches and winter is left behind as a distant memory.

Its about moving through challenging times and coming out the other side still hopeful.

Just added to playlist as track 1 cause we love it!!

Throwing Shapes EP Tranquility Base review

"Throwing Shapes EP Tranquility Base review"

Tranquility Base

(reviewed by Adam Jones (July 2020))

At its base we find tranquil synths, but as a whole our ears are assaulted with the addition of some enchanting bass and drum electronic grooves. The fourth EP (since 2013) ‘Tranquility Base’ from Throwing Shapes, the innovative and progressive Perth dance music duo – Fox Shannon and Matt Huxtable – delivers some frenetic beats over melodic stylings using piano, bass and some powerful synthesised sounds.

This instrumental dance outfit are known for their energetic and captivating live shows as they garner more interest and entries in dance music compilation albums and Spotify Playlists. From the opening title track through to the moody closer, Throwing Shapes are ‘Defiant, Yet At Your Mercy’, with five solid tracks given some cool titles, such as ‘Wonders To Behold’, ‘Demons Run’ and ‘Marauder’!

These guys are to electronic dance music today what Pink Floyd was to progressive rock back in the late 60s and 70s, providing some creative, moving and beautiful melodic sounds over some of the best bass’n’drum electronic beats you will ever hope to find.

Whether you want to indulge your aural senses at home, in the car, or down the club, with some superior quality dance music, go no further than Throwing Shapes and their latest offering.  It will be worth it!

Julie-Anne Marshall Releases Dream Pop Single Crossfire

"Julie-Anne Marshall Releases Dream Pop Single Crossfire"

Soundslikecafe is proud to feature the new single from Julie-Anne Marshall “Crossfire” –

Julie-Anne’s latest song release ‘Crossfire’ has her stepping into the dream pop genre. With her vocals taking on a whisper pop vibe in this song, she still remains true to her lyric driven evocative songwriting style. This diverse songwriter is showing that not only can she write across genre’s but her vocals are more than able to traverse the genre divide.

Hailing from Adelaide, Julie-Anne Marshall is an independent singer-songwriter who is not limited by musical boundaries – soft rock, easy listening with some jazz, roots and blues and a bit of folk and pop.

Julie-Anne independently released her first album “Bluebird” in 2016 with follow up singles “The Dawn” and “Memory”.

For Julie-Anne the song leads the way and songwriting is the sole reason she performed with bands around Adelaide working on her performing and song writing skills. Piano is her instrument and her vocal style is earthy yet ethereal, with songs that are lyric driven, melodic and wistful yet wishful.

The songs are;

1500-Gareth Koch Code Blue 3000

Code Blue by Gareth Koch(from the EP)

This is jaunty & upbeat featuring full band backing, Koch’s Aria Award Winning signature guitar and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, but there are clues to an underlying seriousness.

Dancin’ by The Mezcaltones(from the album Hillbilly Surf Rock Music)

A song who’s vintage tones and grooves lends itself to a time when lyrics had to be subtle but you still get the meaning. Another killer radio friendly tune from whats shaping up to be the bands best album yet.

Angel Front Square 1500 px

Mirror of Love by Tim Walker(from the album Bridge of Angels)

Tim’s songwriting has truly come of age on this album and theres just so may good songs – this is another uptempo, hooky, and fun tune which even features an old school ragtime piano break.

prayer for rain

Prayer for Rain by Fiona Joy Hawkins and Rebecca Daniel (from the single)

Impressionistic neo-classical piano with ethereal layered vocals featuring vocals from both of the girls. The alto from Fiona and Rebecca is the Soprano. All proceeds from this song go to bushfire affected wildlife via the Billabong Zoo Koala Hospital.

The Fatal Hour by Steve Kilbey and Gareth Koch (from the album Chryse Planitia)

Another deep and vibrant tune from this acclaimed album.

A much more laid back tune showing the other possibilities on the album this song starts with only guitar and voice, drawing the listener into the Kilbey/Koch world. When the drums and bass do kick in the whole thing moves up a notch and theres some great choral ear candy featured as well.

EP8 Cover Sqaure

Wonders To Behold by Throwing Shapes(from the EP Tranquility Base)

The second playlist addition for this prolific WA Electronica Act. This tune will keep your interest and feet tapping throughout.
