Plus the Band’s New Tour Dates and Upcoming single are below.
Official Music Video for ‘Forth Valley Blues’
Forth Valley Blues music video (edited by Sheyana Wijesingha) is a fitting tribute to celebrate the blues, with festival footage from Australian filmmakers ‘The Brothers Robinson’, and local Tasmanian content creator Tina Smith, kindly provided by The Forth Valley Blues Festival. The video features footage of The Sheyana Band’s live takes, during the recording of this track at ‘Red Robin Recording’ in Forth Tasmania, with Australian sound tech/producer Russell Pilling onboard!
It’s the music that brings us together!
Nestled by the bridge on Forth River, the iconic Forth Valley Blues Festival was born in 1997 in a picturesque little town called Forth on the North West Coast of Tasmania. A community working together to create an opportunity for local talent to share the stage with Australian and International legends. Having been invited to perform at the festival on four separate occasions, the inspiration was in the blues, the joy, the journey and the history of this exciting Tasmanian event. It was an honour to write this song for the festival and perform it as a crowd singalong during The Sheyana Band’s set at Forth Valley Blues Festival 2024.

‘Wasted’ Single Release Out on March 20th

Channeling emotions into song can turn negative into positive, which was a remedy when I wrote Wasted. This song describes love with a narcissist. Lies, secrets, disrespect, predictions of betrayal and enabling of bad behaviour. The songwriting of this track was a great outlet for processing a negative experience. What a treat to have Russell Pilling’s in the studio with us, hands on, old school, producing this song as we recorded it.

The DK Effect Release Single ‘Nothing Left to Say’
‘Nothing Left To Say’ is about the fear and uncertainty of moving to a new place and leaving behind all of your established friends, creative, and professional support networks. It’s about loneliness, emptiness, and the challenges of establishing a new identity and presence. It also touches on the often foolish (and sometimes futile) attempts to integrate into existing social groups, only to realise they’re not your people anyway.
Musically, we had a lot of fun with this one in the studio. The groove is tight and sparse which allows the vocals to soar during the choruses and provides a solid backdrop for the guitar, keys and saxophone to engage in some playful banter during the outro.

The DK Effect are an original 9-piece soul, funk and RnB band known for their four powerhouse vocalists, rich storytelling, melodic harmonies, and the passionate, polyrhythmic ‘call and response’ vocal synchronicity inspired by gospel music.
Their debut album, ‘Moving Time’, showcased their diverse repertoire. The album spent two months in the TOP 10 of the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts.
Recording at the iconic Frying Pan Studio was a unique and amazing experience for the band. The studio offers stunning views of Berriedale Bay and Kunanyi (Mount Wellington), creating a relaxing and inspiring environment. There is a viewing window into the studio, allowing museum visitors to watch and listen (via headphones) to the recording process. For the band, it was fun being an ‘exhibition / performance artist’ during the recording process – almost like a live recording.
The band has performed at numerous Tasmanian venues such as MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), Altar, The Moonah Arts Centre, Kickstart Arts, Salamanca Arts Centre, The Clarence Jazz Festival, The Playhouse Theatre, The Taste of Tasmania Festival, Rektango, the Uni Bar, Street Eats Franko, and the Republic Bar.

The DK Effect Release Single ‘Moth To The Flame’
‘Moth to the Flame’ started out as a playful look at how basic human needs like love, faith, and desire are often exploited for profit. But more recently, with the rise of data tracking, algorithms, and social media we’re now experiencing how these ‘tools of influence’ can shape how people think, encourage certain beliefs and behaviours, and stir up fear and anger, especially in those who feel ignored or misunderstood. So, what began as a light dig at sex and religion now reflects on a slightly darker world.
‘Moth’ was the first track we recorded at Frying Pan Studio in MONA – the Museum of Old and New Art – in Tasmania. It’s become our trusted warm-up and soundcheck song, thanks to its familiar groove and the generous sonic space it offers for improvisation and creative play.

The Sheyana Band Release Compilation Album ‘All The Best’
NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR SINGLE ‘RICOCHET’
It’s the Music, that brings us together to celebrate truth without boundaries, freedom to be yourself and bare your soul, to channel emotions, to form a connection and a common thread that creates an outlet with a remedy!
What a thrill for us to go back into the studio to record 3 new tracks that feature alongside our favourite songs from ‘Big Love’ album & ‘Ricochet’ EP. From the early days, the seed was planted and drew inspiration from its deep Tasmanian roots. Today, the tree stands tall! We’ve travelled so far on this journey. What a beautiful ride, playing incredible live shows, making great albums and honing in on our skills with our wonderful band family. What a blessing to see how we’ve grown and evolved.
Music is a gift that resonates on a higher vibration, inspired by freedom of expression, a sense of community, a cause for celebration, the need to love and connect and to reflect on human behaviour with the right to hope. Love & Thanks to everyone involved in the making of this album. ‘All the Best’

The DK Effect Release Single ‘Don’t Take Too Long’
Don’t Take Too Long is the story of someone coping with emotional issues using pharmaceutical solutions. They know it’s not a permanent fix and recognise the long-term cost, but can’t find, or don’t want to find an alternative. They’re happy to continue along the uncertain path for as long as fate and finance allows.
The second release from a suite of five recorded at Frying Pan Studio in the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Tasmania. Call and response is a strong feature of this song which is a crowd favourite at gigs. The simple arrangement and contrast between verse and chorus allows room for the track to reach a satisfying crescendo.

The DK Effect are an original 9-piece soul, funk and RnB band known for their four powerhouse vocalists, rich storytelling, melodic harmonies, and the passionate, polyrhythmic ‘call and response’ vocal synchronicity inspired by gospel music.
Their debut album, ‘Moving Time’, showcased their diverse repertoire and was expertly mastered by Grammy Award-winning Dave Darlington in New York. The album spent two months in the TOP 10 of the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts.
Writing and recording their second album was taking longer than they had hoped, so the decision was made to record some of their more established tracks at Frying Pan Studio in the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Tasmania.

The Sheyana Band Release Single ‘Remarkable Man’
The new uptempo cracking’ single Remarkable Man lifted from The Sheyana Bands EP Ricochet.
The band went into the studio to record a Johnny Cash style country & western ditty, but sound engineer, Russell Pilling, suggested changing the original Americana feel to a tougher AC/DC – Aussie Rock feel. Bingo!! It was like a brand new song and the track fitted like a glove into their new EP ‘Ricochet’.
Sheyana explains: “When I close my eyes, this is how the imagery of the song plays in my mind; show yourself friend or foe! Remarkable Man lines up with both barrels, bullets of pleasure and pain – shining bright, cutting deep, demanding to be loved and loathed. Cover your trusting heart! Do you have the superpowers to survive the impact?”
The track has become a band and fan favourite.
A full throttle country rock number from Sheyana, a very worthy single to follow up to Big Hearts. The song begins with the full band straight in, its up-tempo, catchy and full of riffs and hooks from the very competent guitar section, foot tapping all the way to the end.

The Sheyana Band’s recent EP, ‘Ricochet’, came together during covid lockdown in Tasmania. Making the best of a bad situation and with time for reflection, Sheyana and the band focused on songwriting, and the music emerged out of conflicting times.
Influenced by the classics and drawing inspiration from their deep Tassie roots, The Sheyana Band are like a fine wine. A ripe fruity musical banquet, fusing stylistic flavours from Australian Rhythm & Soul, American Funk & Blues, English Pop/Rock & Punk with a dash of Southern Country/Folk.
London born, Tasmanian based singer, songwriter and guitarist, Sheyana, has been hooked on music since early childhood. The soulful Celtic/Sri Lankan storyteller brings flavour to the table with her stellar band, featuring Wayne Rand on lead guitars/vocals, Dan Jeffrey on bass & Leigh Hill on drums/vocals.
Following the release earlier this year of their EP, the band embarked on a series of sold out single & album launches across Tasmania. The EP is getting national airplay, charting on Australian Blues and Roots Chart, and received some great national and international album reviews.
The first single & music clip Big Hearts was premiered by Australian music group Scenstr. Internationally, YESFM Sri Lanka recently premiered the track and came in Top 20 on the Yes Home Grown Charts. The band are releasing a second single from the EP, ‘Remarkable Man’ and planning to tour East Coast Australia in 2024, along with some live shows in Sri Lanka.
The Sheyana Band had a top ten hit in Sri Lanka in 2015 with their single ‘Keep the Change’. Sheyana scored a blues award with the OzSong International Song Writing Competition in 2011 for her song ‘Two Birds’, which also made it to the finals in the Fresh Air ABC National Song writing Competition. The Sheyana Band are a favourite act at major Tassie events: Skyfields, Forth Valley Blues Festival, Party In The Paddock, Fruits of the Roots, Festival of King Island, Junction Arts Festival and Riverbend Blues.
The band have supported Deborah Conway, Hoodoo Gurus, Neil Finn, Meg Mac, Mojo Juju, Gang of Youths, Diesel, The Angels, Kevin Borich, Ian Moss, Bill Chambers and Fanny Lumsden. Nationally they won “The Chris Wilson Award” for Emerging Act of Year” with their album Big Love in 2018.
